The original Tech Hoppers were founded in the fall of 2016 as the "Roaring Lions of Roosevelt Island." However, we decided to name ourselves for two things we really valued: Cornell "Tech" and Grace "Hopper." Our team wanted to honor Cornell Tech, as we have been blessed enough to meet at the gorgeous Cornell Tech campus, and we've been inspired and guided by many of our mentors from the Cornell Tech graduate program. We are also named for Grace Hopper, a US Navy admiral and computer science pioneer. She was one of the earliest prominent women in STEM and a major inspiration to our team, so we also wear hats resembling hers to honor her.
